On Wednesday, June 22 at 9AM another historical moment took place at Collins Park Golf Course, during Collins Park Golf Course's first Mornings With Milton Junior Golf Program it was announced that Collins Park GC will be the host course for the inaugural First Tee program in Toledo, OH.

Press Release:

On Wednesday, June 22 at 9AM another historical moment took place at Collins Park Golf Course in Toledo, Ohio.  Greg Fish, COO for Master Golf Management Group, the operators of the three city of Toledo public golf courses, said; “This day may be the most significant day for Collins Park Golf Course since its original dedication in 1932 by the famous S.P. Jermain.” Mr. Jermain is well known as the father of public golf in Toledo.

The first presentation was started by Alan Fadel, a local philanthropist, a former PGA Tour player and a 7 time club champion from the Inverness Club. Mr. Fadel has been working for over four years to land a “FIRST TEE” affiliate designation for Toledo and that day was realized today. He thanked Mayor Bell, who was in attendance, for the cooperation received from his staff which helped make this day possible. Alan Fadel also introduced Lewis Davis who will be the first director of FIRST TEE of Toledo....

Next Mr. Chuck Redmond, the Executive Director of First Tee of Lake Erie, spoke about the importance of this event and the goals of  FIRST TEE which included not only learning the great game of golf,  but also the life skills that will be taught to all kids in the program.  Mr. Redmond read a letter specifically written to Toledo by Mark Lowery, Senior Director East Territory, his letter spoke of the long term importance that this program will create for the youth of Toledo who participate.

Mayor Bell addressed the kids and parents while wearing one of the hats presented to each kid. On the hat, the life skills that will be taught are stitched into the hat along with the First Tee logo. Mayor Bell exclaimed that if the kids learned these skills there would be no limit to the possibilities of their success in life. He showed great pride in the fact that this program could be brought to Toledo for the benefit of the kids.

The second part of the program was the first day of the signature program started by Master Golf Management to promote youth golf “ Mornings with Milton.” Mr. Fish introduced Milton Carswell, Jr., PGA to the attendees. Mr. Carswell was the 1996 Toledo Junior Golf Player of the Year, 1996 and 1997 TJGA Sportsman of the Year, 4 Time All City League golfer from Waite High School, Toledo City League Hall of Fame Member, Birmingham Hall of Fame Inductee and PGA Class A Member. Milton spoke of how he grew up and leaned the game from mentors at Collins Park G.C. when he was a young man in this very neighborhood.  Now he wants to give back the same way he received good advice and help learning golf.  Mornings with Milton will be conducted for 8 weeks every Wednesday morning from 9AM to Noon and will finish with a cookout and awards presentation.  The kids who graduate from the program will carry a special bag tag on their clubs that will qualify them for special discounts at all city courses operated by Master Golf Management. Mr. Carswell also introduced Mr. John Kredzel, President and Reggie Temple, Vice-President of The State Bank and Milton thanked them for sponsoring “Mornings with Milton.”

Mr. Fish closed the official presentation and Milton teed off on the “FIRST TEE” of Collins Park and all 40 kids followed him down #1 fairway. “Hopefully this will be the beginning of a historical program in Toledo golf” said Greg Fish.
